We were appointed by Lloyd & Gravell to supply, deliver and install fitted and loose furniture throughout two new Passivhaus Primary Schools in Carmarthenshire during the summer of 2022.
Ysgol Y Castell
This project included providing Ysgol Y Castell with a replacement 300 pupil, English medium primary school to cater for 270 primary and 30 nursery pupils with additional space to cater for up to 23 full time Early Years (wrap around care) places. The new build facility also includes provisions for community use including a car park, sports pitch, Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and associated landscaping and infrastructure works.
The project has received the Considerate Constructor Beyond Compliance Certification and recorded excellent results to meet the Passivhaus Certification requirements.
Ysgol Gorslas
This project included relocating and providing Ysgol Gorslas with a replacement 210 pupil capacity, Welsh medium primary school to cater for pupils between the ages of 4-11 years old. The building also includes additional space to accommodate provision for early years (wrap around care).
Located in a unique location on land at Gorslas Park, the new build facility provides state of the art facilities which is of great benefit to staff, pupils and the wider community and includes a car park, sports pitch and Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).
The project was funded 40% by Welsh Government through its Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme and 60% by the Local Authority’s Modernising Education Programme. Separate childcare capital grants were secured from Welsh Government to provide a wrap-around care facility integrated into the new school building.
Both Ysgol Y Castell and Ysgol Gorslas were designed by Acanthus Holden Architects based in Pembrokeshire. We worked with Lloyd & Gravell and Camarthenshire County Council to develop layouts, product specification, finishes and the installation programme. Both projects were installed concurrently by our own inhouse fitting team. Our Vector fitted furniture for education is designed and manufactured by the Ministry team based in South Wales. We were able to design bespoke teaching walls and cubby holes to ensure the products fully met our clients’ expectations. Following the fitted furniture installation, we then provided loose furniture throughout the two schools from our long standing supply chain.
The schools were occupied in September 2022.
